Why digital content marketing is important to a business

Traditionally, content marketing talked at people through advertising channels such as static billboard and broadcasted messages, whereas, in today’s day and age, digital content marketing is considered to talk with people with methods of storytelling. 

Nowadays with smart search and social media, potential customers have the opportunity to connect and engage with brands at an instant. In fact, digital content marketing has created the opportunity to provide ‘value’ and ‘personalisation’ to the customer and has transformed the way a business interacts with its customers.

Generally, people buying into a brand or business entails five steps: recognition, information search, evaluation of alternatives, purchase decision and post-purchase behaviour. A digital marketer will take the five-step buying process into consideration when producing a content marketing strategy.

Content marketing itself is a technique used for creating, researching, optimising, publishing, sharing and measuring content. Content is the primary source material and central priority for any digital marketing strategy (an umbrella term for all online marketing efforts) and thus why it is important to a business.

Taking into consideration that not all online businesses adopt a digital marketing strategy does not excuse the importance of a content marketing strategy. Any business wanting to progress online will require some form of online advertising whether it’s SEO (search engine optimisation), social media, email marketing or other, all of which will require content marketing to some degree.

The main benefits of content marketing for business are: Raises brand awareness, builds a community of loyal customers, improves SEO, improves social media and adds customer value.
